Leighanne Warburton
Information Controller with WSP in the United Kingdom
Can you tell us a bit about you?
My name is Leighanne Warburton, and I am married with two daughters. I live in Manchester in the UK.
I love spending time with my husband and daughters, as well as with my extended family. In my spare time, I enjoy going to concerts, the cinema and to the theatre. I also love to travel.
What is your current role?
I am an Information Controller with WSP.
WSP is one of the world's leading professional services firms, uniting engineering, advisory and science-based services, employing around 83,000 people across the globe. I am a part of the Transport and Infrastructure Sector, predominantly working within a very busy Rail Team.
Can you describe your professional experience?
I started my career mainly in administrative roles before joining WSP (formerly Parsons Brinckerhoff) in 2011.
I joined WSP as an Administrative Assistant and have progressed to Information Controller, responsible for Document Control on various projects, some of which are large-scale and multidisciplinary projects. Recently, I took on the role of a Lead Information Controller on several projects.
Working simultaneously across multiple projects as an Information Controller reinforced my views on the importance of having clear Document Control processes and the consistency of procedures and measures that are in place.
Which Consepsys course did you attend and when?
I attended the Certified Document Controller course in November 2024. I then went on to sit my exam in April 2025 and gained my certification in May 2025.
What did you think about the course? How did it help you in your current role and career development?
I really enjoyed the Certified Document Controller course and found it to be very beneficial for my current role. It enabled me to progress within my career. I thought the instructor-led online sessions were presented and managed very well and found them to be very informative.
After doing this role for so many years and working across multiple projects in my career, I found this course to be very refreshing; it instilled in me the importance of Document Control on all types of projects and enabled me to understand that Document Control is, within its own right, a profession and a discipline.
Championing best practices in Document Control has supported my career progression and strengthened my confidence to advocate for the discipline and its importance within the project environment. It highlighted to me that, overall, I was on the right track, but also helped me recognise opportunities to further develop and improve our Document Control practices. It gave me the additional confidence to push back when challenged.
Since attending the course and gaining my certification, I have been involved in creating and delivering presentations for the wider company teams, including our Document Control Peers and Project Managers. The aim is to promote the importance of Document Control within the project environment. This is very exciting to be a part of and drive the growth and visibility of Document Control across the company to a new level. In addition, it is a great opportunity for me to further educate other disciplines on exactly what Document Control is and how pivotal it is for a successful project.
